Bill Tice designed for several ready-to-wear firms in New York before becoming the head designer for Royal Robes in 1968. He moved to Swirl from 1975-1984.
Tice is well known for his loungewear designs and is credited for originating such at-home fashions as closely pleated caftans, jersey floats, and the quilted gypsy look
He received a Coty Award for lingerie in 1974
A VINTAGE NIGHTGOWN OR PLEATED DRESS BY BILL TICE, AN AMERICAN COTY WINNER, IN A LOVELY AQUA SHADE CALLED HUMMINGBIRD - I FOUND THIS NIGHTGOWN / DRESS ON MY LAST SHOPPING TRIP TO SAN DIEGO IN A VINTAGE STORE & WAS SO EXCITED WHEN I FOUND IT AS IT IS SO CUTE & A WONDERFUL PIECE OF FASHION HISTORY BY AN AMERICAN COTY WINNER
THE LABEL IS IDENTICAL TO A 1970 BILL TICE LABEL ON THE VINTAGE FASHION GUILD SITE – HE IS KNOWN FOR DESIGNING CLOTHES FOR DUAL PURPOSES SUCH AS BEING ABLE TO WEAR AN ITEM FOR AN EVENING GOWN OR A NIGHTGOWN – HIS GOWNS & LOUNGEWEAR WERE SOLD AT THE FINEST UPSCALE STORES IN THE '70s
THIS CUTE NIGHTGOWN CAN ALSO BE WORN AS A SUMMER DRESS - THE FABRIC IS A CRISP POLY & COTTON BLEND & THE GARMENT LOOKS AS THOUGH IT HAS NEVER BEEN WORN – THERE IS STILL A SMALL PAPER STICKER ON THE INSIDE OF THE DRESS - THE BODICE IS PLEATED WITH BUTTONS UP THE FRONT WHICH OPEN – IT IS LINED IN A PELON-TYPE FABRIC TO GIVE IT BODY – TINY SPAGHETTI STRAPS – A FULL GATHERED SKIRT – JUST ADORABLE & SO VERSATILE -

However, some slight imperfections that will not show or affect wearing/using the item may slip by or not be considered worth mentioning.
Vintage nightgowns & peignoirs may be delicate so I do not wash them in the machine. I wash them in lukewarm water with Woolite or some other mild soap, rinse & hang dripping wet in the shower.
Since these are vintage items, a bit of extra care needs to be taken with them so they remain beautiful & I DEFINITELY would never put a vintage nightgown or a peignoir in the dryer as it would ruin it.
The items are sold as we find them. We do not dry clean, launder, alter or repair vintage clothing and they should be cleaned or washed upon arrival. Please make your selection carefully & check the measurements as there is no return on clothing or other items.
