BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE PIERRE CARDIN WHITE & BLACK SAILOR SWING DRESS JUST ADORABLE
The following information is from the Vintage Fashion Guild Label Resource site & my thanks to them
Frenchman Pierre Cardin studied architecture but worked as a cutter for a tailor, becoming apprenticed to a tailor in Vichy in 1939. After WWII he worked as an assistant, first at Paquin, and then at Schiaparelli before becoming the head of the workrooms at Christian Dior in 1946. He was at Dior in the following year and helped develop the "New Look" which made Dior's fame.
Cardin went out on his own in 1950, starting his own couture house. In 1957 he started a ready-to-wear line - a bold move for a French couturier at the time. Probably the look most associated with Cardin was the "Space Age" collections of the mid 1960s. Starting in 1964, Cardin made some of the most futuristic clothing of the era, with severe A-line mini dresses that featured cut-outs and molded forms, space helmet hats and solid color catsuits. He also designed men's suits in a style that became associated with the Beatles.
Starting in the late 1960s, Cardin began licensing his name. At one time there were over 800 different licenses. Unfortunately this has worked to eclipse the innovative work he did in the 1960s. The vintage collector will likely find Cardin designs from the 1950s, 1960s and very early 1970s to be more desirable, as these reflect Cardin's work more closely than the later, licensed products.
"The clothing I prefer are those I invent for a life that doesn't yet exist - the world of tomorrow!" Pierre Cardin
I LOVE THIS VINTAGE PIERRE CARDIN SAILOR DRESS IN WHITE & BLACK - PERFECT FOR SPRING & SUMMER - THE LABEL LOOKS VERY MUCH LIKE THE 1980’S LABEL ON THE VINTAGE FASHION GUILD LABEL RESOURCE SITE - VERY FULL SWING DRESS - WHITE CREPE FABRIC - FABRIC COVERED BUTTONS & LOOPS ON SLIM SLEEVES - CLOSURE IN BACK IS A LOOP & BUTTON - THE LOOP IS MISSING BUT IT IS EASY TO REPLACE WITH JUST A TINY PIECE OF ELASTIC - LINED - JUST ADORABLE
Designer: Pierre Cardin - Paris - New York - Boutique
Size: 6 but go by the measurements for a good fit
Measurements:
the dress is lined & the lining is not as full as the swing dress so my measurements will be for the lining as that will be the smallest measurements on the dress & if you can‘t get into the lining, then the dress will be too small. If you really like the dress & those measurements were too small, you could always split the lining INSIDE on the side seams as the dress is very full as you can see Bust: 40 - 41 stretched
Waist: 41
Hip: 42
Length: 42-½
Sleeve from neck: 28
Fabric: Poly Crepe
Condition: Very good - some store soiling on the dress but should come out with a cleaning - a very pale small light yellow spot about 10" above the hem on the side which I did not see until I closely examined the dress & then I had to take a second look to make sure that it was really there - no one could see it as it is so pale & it falls into the folds besides
Care: Hand wash
We examine each item carefully and note any imperfections, but unless an item is said to be NEW, please don't expect it to be perfect. Please remember that unless specified all items have been used and will show varying signs of use/wear. We always list the obvious staining/spotting/discoloration and damage/defects to the best of our abilities. However, some slight imperfections that will not show or affect wearing/using the item may slip by or not be considered worth mentioning. I do not wash them in the machine. I wash them in lukewarm water with Woolite or some other mild soap, rinse & hang dripping wet in the shower.
Since these are vintage items, a bit of extra care needs to be taken with them so they remain beautiful & I DEFINITELY would never put a vintage nightgown or a peignoir in the dryer as it would ruin it.
The items are sold as we find them. We do not dry clean, launder, alter or repair vintage clothing and they should be cleaned or washed upon arrival. Please make your selection carefully & check the measurements as there is no return on clothing.
